Headwaters Hounds

Our fixtures are now posted on our calendar at this link.  First hound exercise is on Saturday October 4th.

All horse riders are invited to attend a wine and cheese party to learn about the organization of a mounted hunt club in Chaffee County.  Hunt members will ride horses, follow hounds and chase coyotes.  Hunt season runs from November through mid-April.  Ride Western or English!! At the meeting we will talk about how to become a member, advantages of membership, how a hunt is organized and how it operates.  We will talk about how the hounds are actually hunted and possible hunt sites.

The meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 22nd at 7:30 pm at 6751 CR 107, Salida.  Please RSVP here if you can attend and we will send you directions.  Call Gordon Schieman at 719 539 4823 if you are interested but can’t attend.

We are pleased to announce the formation of Headwaters Hounds, a new foxhunt in Salida, Colorado.  Headwaters Hounds was founded with hounds and members from two prior Colorado hunt clubs, the Woody Creek Hounds and Fort Carson Hounds.  We will be hunting the wily coyotes in public lands in Chaffee, Fremont and Saguache counties and are encouraging new members  to join us and learn about the fun and thrill of riding with the hounds.  We are also looking for confident riders who are interested in learning the skills of hunting the hounds as “Whippers-In”.  Non-riders are also very welcome as members to join our many social events and fabulous annual Hunt Ball and to enjoy the spectacle of the hounds and hunt members in full pursuit on a crisp winter day in the beautiful Rocky Mountains – Tally Ho!
